{"id":215,"date":"2010-03-06T18:58:06","date_gmt":"2010-03-06T23:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jessicaleader.com\/blog\/?p=215"},"modified":"2010-06-02T10:28:36","modified_gmt":"2010-06-02T15:28:36","slug":"join-the-library-lovin-blog-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jessicaleader.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/join-the-library-lovin-blog-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Join the Library-Lovin&#8217; Blog Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"old-school libe\" src=\"http:\/\/louisville.edu\/library\/ekstrom\/collections\/Miller600dpismall.jpg\/image_preview\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"272\" \/>Welcome to the library-loving blog challenge!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Whether you\u2019re a bookstore lover or a library devotee, chances are that your local library is doing something awesome right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0They may be finding a book that your non-reading child will actually like.\u00a0 They may be helping someone use the internet to look for jobs, or trying their dangedest to find the name of the book that you only remember as, \u201cOh, it had a pink cover, it maybe it was blue, and it had the word \u2018girl\u2019 in the title.\u00a0 It came out last year, or maybe the year before\u2026\u201d \u00a0They may even, if you beg the right way, be forgiving your library fines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"lfpl\" src=\"http:\/\/pac.lfpl.org\/polaris\/themes\/formal\/new_logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"92\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know what I\u2019d do without the dedicated and hospitable staff at the Louisville Free Public Library.\u00a0 It must be an effort for them to smile when they see me coming, because I always ask them to pull so many books for me from around the city.\u00a0 But they are always well-informed and kind, even though they\u2019ve had a horrible year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"lfpl flood\" src=\"http:\/\/michelelee.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/fl2lg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In August, a flash flood that covered the city in two feet of water\u2014the city!\u00a0 Not the country!\u00a0 We have regular city streets!\u2014ruined the sorting and storages facilities at the main branch. \u00a0Many people pitched in for the recovery effort, but the library is still in need of funds.\u00a0 The picture below is from the week of the flood.\u00a0\u00a0Imagine already struggling with funding your multi-service operation and coming in to find this in your basement.\u00a0 (The truck\u00a0is the Bookmobile, drowned.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Here\u2019s where you and I come in: I joined writer Jennifer Hubbard\u2019s Library-Loving Blog Challenge.\u00a0 For every commenter on this post between now and April 6, 2010, 12:00 pm, I will donate 50 cents to the Louisville Free Public Library, up to an amount of $40.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How easy could it be?\u00a0 You comment, I proudly find two quarters, and the library gets a gift.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know what to say in your comment, \u201cI love libraries\u201d will do.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Note that my pledge is \u201cper commenter,\u201d so if a single person leaves 50 comments, that still only counts once.\u00a0 But you can do more by spreading the word.\u00a0 Please link to this post, tweet about it, and send your friends here so they can comment and raise more money.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re moved to make a flat-fee donation to your library, or to start your own challenge, you are quite welcome, and please leave that information in the comments.<\/p>\n<p>For a complete list of participating bloggers (and to visit other sites where you can help libraries just by leaving a comment!) visit the writerjenn blog at <a href=\"http:\/\/writerjenn.livejournal.com\/\">http:\/\/writerjenn.livejournal.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thanks for joining!\u00a0 I look forward to seeing comments in the name of library love.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the library-loving blog challenge!
