{"id":73,"date":"2010-01-08T18:04:51","date_gmt":"2010-01-08T23:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jessicaleader.com\/blog\/?p=73"},"modified":"2010-01-08T18:04:51","modified_gmt":"2010-01-08T23:04:51","slug":"mock-it-up-show-you-what-i-got","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jessicaleader.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/mock-it-up-show-you-what-i-got\/","title":{"rendered":"Mock it Up, Show You What I Got"},"content":{"rendered":"<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Neutra Face : An Ode On A Typeface  (A Bearded Poker Face Parody)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xHCu28bfxSI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>It all started when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joshberkbooks.com\/\">Josh Berk<\/a>, one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/community.livejournal.com\/10_ers\/\">Tenners<\/a> (novelists debuting in 2010), posted something very helpful on the site, and someone referred to him as a font.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote, &#8220;Yes, but which one!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And he, ever witty, wrote, &#8220;Mostly I feel like Wingdings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then, since I only have limited flashes of genius each day (sorry), I Tweeted, &#8220;If you were a font, what would you be?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Josh gamely repeated his Wingdings comment, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amybrecountwhite.com\/\">Amy Brecount White<\/a> turned me on to this&#8211;a bunch of bearded men dancing, New Wave video-style, to a an ode they&#8217;d written to a typeface.  <\/p>\n<p>In the words of one of my protagonists: that video is hot, hot, hot.  (She probably says that about a video, too.  There&#8217;s a lot of video in Nice and Mean.  Actually, it&#8217;s about making a video.)  But these guys&#8217; video is hot in another way, although sort of like PS22, which I wrote about last month.  They&#8217;re so Into It. And you know, I think I really like Into It.<\/p>\n<p>And it all started because Josh Berk was a font of information.  That&#8217;s what we like about the internets.  Electric boogie all day long.<\/p>\n<p>Oh: I got my ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) of Nice and Mean today.  They&#8217;re adorable.  They look just like what I&#8217;d think a book of mine would look like.  Way to bury the lead, I know.  But I&#8217;m still thinking how I&#8217;m going to announce it more publicly, with cute pictures n giveaways n stuff.
