{"id":760,"date":"2011-03-28T09:08:47","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T14:08:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jessicaleader.com\/blog\/?p=760"},"modified":"2011-03-28T19:39:11","modified_gmt":"2011-03-29T00:39:11","slug":"library-lovin-blog-challenge-starts-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jessicaleader.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/library-lovin-blog-challenge-starts-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Library-Lovin&#8217; Blog Challenge Starts Today!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"story hour\" src=\"http:\/\/cookecountylibrary.org\/images\/storyhour.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"211\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the second annual Library-Lovin&#8217; Blog Challenge!<\/p>\n<p>Who doesn&#8217;t love a good library? \u00a0All those books lovingly wrapped in plastic, and free. \u00a0All those quirky librarians, making your day just a little more interesting with their banter and going out of their way to help you find resources. \u00a0All that programming, without which many families would find themselves bored and disconnected, and all that technology to help people find jobs, houses, and internet boyfriends. \u00a0That&#8217;s all thanks to public libraries, but it ain&#8217;t free.<\/p>\n<p>YA author <a href=\"http:\/\/writerjenn.livejournal.com\/\">Jenn Hubbard<\/a> (<em>The Secret Year<\/em>, 2010) came up with this great idea that during the first week of April, kidlit writers and bloggers would donate money to their favorite libraries based on the number of comments they receive. \u00a0<strong>For every person who comments on this blog between now and Saturday, April 2nd, midnight EST, I will donate $1.00 to the Louisville Free Public Library<\/strong>, which has kept me in books, in company, and out of debt more than I can say. \u00a0And I promise to post more often so that you actually have things to comment on! \u00a0<strong>Today&#8217;s comment question: What do you like best about libraries?<\/strong> I&#8217;ve put some options in the poll to your right, but if you want a library to earn money from your opinion, editorialize in the comments below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"curious george\" src=\"http:\/\/world.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/20100726170057ENPRNPRN-AD-COUNCIL-CURIOUS-GEORGE-90-1280163657MR.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition, whomever among you comments the most will win a copy of my middle-grade novel, <em>Nice and Mean<\/em>, either to keep or ask me to donate to whomever you choose.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/writerjenn.livejournal.com\/234087.html\">this link<\/a> will connect you with other bloggers who are participating in the challenge, so if you are feeling particularly swoony about libraries, you can read even more and quintippleipple your impact (quintippleipple is to multiply something by 50. \u00a0If you don&#8217;t believe me, look it up.) \u00a0And please! \u00a0<strong>Spread the word about this challenge<\/strong>&#8211;on your blog, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. \u00a0The more comments, the more money, the more our beloved libraries will be able to do the things that make us love them.<\/p>\n<p>So stay tuned for love songs about libraries (stories, too),\u00a0and if you don&#8217;t have a blog but want to guest-post about your love for libraries, let me know in the comments!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the second annual Library-Lovin&#8217; Blog Challenge!
