Stop-Gap

Posted in Writerliness on 04/29/2010 05:33 pm by jess

Things I could blog about if I weren’t so tired:

-The careers I would take on in another life (Broadway orchestrator; gynecologist; Olympic gymnast)

-What’s going on with my work-in-progress (I’m facing down the last few chapters and daunted about the prospect of pulling it all together.  That’s a photo of a ditched-out horse trail, by the way.)

-How it’s Derby season here in Kentucky and there were Derby Pie samples at the grocery store this morning and I almost fainted with delight (Derby Pie=pecan pie with chocolate chips.  It is SO GOOD.)

-Um

-Something else

-Probably another thing

-I’m really happy that Nice and Mean will be on the Summer Indie Next List–I told you that, right?

-What does it say about me that I repeatedly bury the lead?

-Also might as well mention that I’ve almost confirmed dates for launch parties in Louisville, NYC, Providence and Boston

-I bought pretty Indian bangle bracelets to give away as swag for Nice and Mean and kind of all I want to do is make them ring-a-ling all day long

Yeah.  That’s about it.  If you would like to propose a topic for me to blog about, please go ahead.  Especially if you’re my friend, and you once heard me talk about something funny, please remind me what it is so I can talk about it.  I would welcome a little direction.

Hi Jessie – I have been reading your blog since your Mom told my Mom about it. . . it’s hilarious and I really like reading it.
I once remember having a long conversation with Amanda and Meredith about The Babysitters Club – and maybe even having a round of spontaneous BSC trivia. . . .Now that I write this I think I am going to get a BSC book for my daughter and get reacquainted with Claudia, Stacey, Mary-Anne and Kristy 🙂

Hey, Isabelle! Great to see you here! I should totally write a blog post one day about my love for the BSC. Did you know there is a graphic novel (comic book) version now, and a prequel? Yes. Never let a successful concept die! I’m sure you also relate to my former desire to be an Olympic gymnast (didn’t I meet you for the first time at gymnastics class?)

Ha – I also want to be Nadia, and by Nadia, I mean Nadia in the 1984 TV movie. But the normal Nadia, before she got weird and drank bleach. . . . We did meet at he MGC (Manhattan Gymnastics Club!). In fact, now that I think about it, we should get some kudos for not only Mer and Mand’s relationship but also Ronne and Susan’s 🙂
I just ordered the first BSC book (the old school one) for Maya. I like to get her the old school version of books better that the new ones – I really don’t like the new cover of Anastasia Krupnik but feel bizarrely comforted by the old one. . . . .

Oh my gosh, a world of yesses to the Nadia movie! Did you know that Mand and I still quote it all the time? (“Another delicious carrot stick, my dear?”) And you’re right–MGC was the beginning of many beautiful friendships. (What would Susan’s dining room look like without it?) Hm, maybe you should email me so we can continue these reminiscences en privet. Not that everyone doesn’t want to hear about my sordid childhood of gymnastics and BSC, of course…it’s jess@jessicaleader.com!

Well, that is certainly good, but think about the other choices we’ve got here? Would you mind publishing one more post about all of them also? Many thanks!
